LMGRS Special Event - June 26, 2018

You are invited to attend the Annual Event / AGM which will present The Vancouver Threshold Choir
The Threshold Choir is a group of women who bring comfort and compassion through song to those at the thresholds of living and dying. In groups of two to four they sing gentle songs from a variety of traditions to soothe, comfort and uplift. They sing, when invited, in private homes, hospices, care facilities and hospitals. This choir, which began in 2009, is associated with an international organization of Threshold Choirs.  For more information please visit thresholdchoir.org

Permission to Grieve - A 2-night Women's Retreat

Nourish your mind, body and soul in a welcoming space with the collective support of other women who have experienced loss, too.

Being with Grief - Education Evenings

If you have recently experienced the death of a loved one, we invite you to an education session to learn and share.

You may find it helpful if you have been wondering ....

  • “Is this normal?  Am I normal?’
  • ‘What are common grief responses‎’?
  • ‘How do I know if I need additional help?  
  • Where can I get it if I do?’

These one-time sessions are facilitated in collaboration with Vancouver Coastal Home Hospice Team and Providence Health Palliative Care Unit.


Traumatic Loss Facilitator Training: October 26 & 27 - Vancouver

BCBH, in partnership with the BC Crisis Centre, will be hosting our Traumatic Loss Facilitator Training session on October 26-27, 2018.

This two-day session is for individuals and professionals who wish to be trained to run an eight week traumatic death (including homicide and suicide, with conversation around substance use as well) grief support group. This training will build upon the individual's pre-existing skill-set and introduce topics specific to traumatic loss.  Upon completion, attendees will receive the resource guide including 8 week curriculum examples, educational information, suggested exercises and tactics to help the grieving cope with their grief.

Date: Friday, October 26 & Saturday, October 27

Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm each day

End of Life Marketplace Expo 2018 - Vancouver

The purpose of this event is to provide the public with information and education regarding end-of-life related services and products.

Lower Mainland Grief Recovery Society - Support Groups

LMGRS Grief Support Group Programs are set up with a three-pronged approach:

  • To receive practical information and tools to help you cope with your loss.
  • A chance to connect with others who are also struggling and who ‘get it’.
  • A process-oriented approach that includes week-to-week practices (Heart-work) to help you with your healing journey.

The programs are non-religious and open to those who have experienced the death of a significant person. The fee for the program is $150.00 which includes all your materials and light refreshments.

Bereavement Support at Burnaby Hospice Society

The Burnaby Hospice Society offers support for residents of Burnaby who are experiencing grief and loss - your loved one does not have to be registered within the Burnaby Palliative Care Program. Click on their Bereavement Support Page for all details.

Individual Counselling
Their registered clinical counselor provides short term individual counselling to anyone within 2 years of loss.

Surviving the Loss of a Love

This once a month (first Friday of the month) informal support circle is for adults who are looking for a less formal grief support group following the loss of a spouse or life partner.

Healing Connections

This once a month (first Tuesday of the month) informal support circle is for adults who are looking for a less formal grief support group with people like themselves who must continue to make the many difficult adjustments to life following the loss of a loved one.

*Initial registration is required for all groups.   A minimum 3 month waiting period, after the loss of a loved one is required for all groups.  Please call the Bereavement Coordinator at 604-520-5024 or email: counselling@burnabyhospice.org to inquire about groups.


Delta Hospice Grief Support

The Delta Hospice Society offers the following complimentary bereavement support groups. For more information including the dates of any of the groups listed below, please call 604-948-0660.

Adult Grief Group invites adults who have experienced the death of a loved one to come together and participate in a supportive group.

Bereavement Self-Care/Relaxation Group welcomes adults who have experienced the death of a loved one to join its self-care/relaxation group to learn a variety of self-care techniques and participate in experiential guided relaxation.

Adult Bereavement Walking Group If you have been bereaved recently, consider joining the Delta Hospice Society’s Adult Bereavement Walking Group where you can walk & talk 50-60 minutes with others in similar situations.

Kids Grieve Too Delta Hospice Society is pleased to offer Kids Grieve Too –  bereavement groups to support children ages 7-12. These groups apply expressive arts and play therapy to reduce anxiety and anger, promote healthy expression of difficult emotions, increase understanding of grief and loss, and provide support through connection with others.


Family Services of the North Shore - Complimentary Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is the practice of deep relaxation, stillness and peace. It is for the times when you feel weak, fatigued or stressed from your daily activities. You can practice the poses when ill or recovering from illness or injury.
